The First Annual Blogfinger Town-wide Yard Sale was pronounced a great success by the 21 participants. We did a survey of that group, and here are some of their comments: “we were very happy with our sale,” “very good,” and “everyone’s treasures were different ” All of them agreed that having a large group enhanced the chance to attract customers. For example, on Stockton Avenue, four families participated.
From Mary Walton: “I think the yard sale was superb. You did a great job of getting the word out. Buyers got bargains. Sellers got rid of stuff and made a little money. But best of all it was fun because so many neighbors turned out in one way or another. It was a great social lubricant. Yes, do it next year.”
Everyone agreed that they would like to see it occur next year, although some wondered if they would have anything to sell.
We will plan to do it in 2013 on the Mothers’ Day Saturday in May. It’s a fun thing to do with Mom. Hopefully the numbers will increase next May.
Please let us know if you have any suggestions. We’ll see you next year. Paul @Blogfinger
Vacmom, Not checking Blogfinger was your mistake! *All the news that’s fit to print.”
I’m sorry that I missed out on this. I had stopped by the Chamber of Commerce earlier this month to ask why OG doesn’t do a town wide garage sale similar to Bradley Beach and AP (where they had maps which was very helpful). It seems it would be a good idea and homeowners wouldn’t have to post all those messy signs around town. I was told that OG doesn’t do that. I’m happy to hear that this is not so and I will be ready for next year (maybe we could do one in the fall).
Not enforcing a stupid (?) rule makes it … and the department … irrelevant.
What bothers me is that Neptune Twp does not enforce the rules. Many of us went out of our way to get the permits, only to learn that some in town had sales without permits. The same regarding the signs. We refrained from posting notices, but someone in our neighborhood hung a large sign on Main Avenue and then another on Asbury Avenue. Paul
I find permits to have a yard sale, or porch sale, odd. I mean, what’s next? Permits to advertise on Craigslist?
The 21 participants were only part of the total number of yards sales. However Neptune Code Enforcement informs that only 17 permits were applied for.
If you have nothing to sell, you could sell social lubricant.
I enjoyed the yard sales over Mother’s Day weekend!!! We made the rounds with 3 generations.
