Ocean Grove got through Hurricane Irene in good shape, electricity-wise.
Thousands of people in Neptune Township and Monmouth County lost power on Sunday, and by Thursday many still didn’t have it back.
But not us Grovers. We had our power back a short time after the storm.
After spending the better part of a week without juice, and seeing the food spoil in their refrigerators and freezers, many people in sections of Shark River Hills and the Gables and along School House Road and Route 66 lost patience. So did their government officials.
“This lag time in having power restored to all customers is completely unacceptable,” Neptune Committeewoman Mary Beth Jahn told Blogfinger on Thursday night. “Monmouth County is currently locking horns directly with FirstEnergy, the corporate owner of JCP&L…over their sluggish response.”
She said the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities plans to hold investigative hearings.

UPDATE: In an apologetic press release on Friday, Central Jersey Power & Light said although most of its affected customers have had their power restored, many in central New Jersey may remain without power into the weekend, or even into early next week.
