It is a tradition for Ocean Grove firemen to gather in Firemen’s Park on the Friday morning after Thanksgiving. It is the first gesture regarding Christmas seen each year in the Grove.  The baby Jesus has been anchored down in recent years to avoid the kidnappings that had occurred before.

The firemen climbed ladders  to hang signs that say, “Joy” and conversed regarding the lighting arrangements which always put a festive  face on the town as people drive by on Main Avenue.
