The “church flag” is actually the “Christian Flag” that originated in 1897 and became officially accepted by various Protestant groups in the mid 20th century. It has obvious similarities to the American Flag. A pledge was even written for the Christian Flag that has familiar wording.
The official flag in early Ocean Grove was white with the words, “In the beginning God.” This was displayed at the various flagpoles in town that were recycled ship masts. The display of this flag in the center of a renovated Founders Park was suggested in 1906, but the site was subsequently used for the fountain. The use of this flag declined over the years.
Kevin: I don’t accept assignments on Blogfinger, but you are welcome to explain that banner yourself. Just do another comment. Paul
Why not tell your viewers what the flag #saminvincible represents that is flying from the flagpole.
Tom. That cross shaped flagpole near the pier is flying the Church flag and some other banner, but not the US flag. The main flagpole at Main Avenue flies the Church flag beneath the American flag.
At my house we are flying the American flag. It is my impression that far fewer homes in town fly the US flag compared to when we moved here in 2002. We admired the visible patriotism…..then. Paul
Both flags in the picture are tattered. Can’t see the US flag.
