Does anyone read newspapers anymore? I notice that Wegman’s newsstand obtains few copies of any paper. I don’t know the stats, but more people get their news on line, with losses in paper editions and TV news. I guess cable news is an important source, although it has become so politicized that those outlets suffer as well.
Michael was studying journalism at Boston University, although his main emphasis was photojournalism. He was the photography editor of the independent BU daily student newspaper the Free Press. He was awarded an internship at the LA Times, so I accompanied him when we drove cross country in his rickety Suzuki jeep. We stopped briefly in Albuquerque where the spelling was challenging and the absence of authentic Chinese food daunting.
We went to a restaurant where they offered diner food and Chinese dishes. I ordered a dish called “Moo Goo Guy” and Michael ordered “Chop Suey,” and they were identical–probably out of a can. We stopped at the Grand Canyon where my glasses fell off and down to the bottom. Lucky I had another pair.
He eventually joined the photography department at the Asbury Park Press where their photo staff was highly regarded. While working there he rented an apartment in Ocean Grove. He told us about the town. It seemed like a dreary place in the mid-1990’s. Subsequently he changed careers and I cannot share his location in 2023.
We occasionally show some of his work on Blogfinger where he was using a pseudonym called Moe Demby after a favorite uncle. We can now use his real name. Here is one of his professional APP photos which we shared on Blogfinger.
