Bruce Springsteen has been working on this album for some time. He finished it this year, but he trashed the first try and now the finished product will be released on Nov. 11, 2022.
This is only the second time that Springsteen has released a cover album. The first was when he did a wonderful collection of Pete Seeger’s music.
This time he wanted to honor selected songs from The “Great American Songbook” of the ’60’s and ’70’s–a collection of soul and R&B pieces.
Another aspect of this album is that Bruce will only sing; he won’t play any instrument.
This week one song was released called “Do I Love You. (Indeed I Do.”) This song is famous among aficionados of ’60’s soul music: Only a few records of it were ever released. It was originally performed by soul singer and producer Frank Wilson. It is posted below.
One local fact is that Springsteen released his new album The Rising on the beach of Asbury Park on July 29, 2002. . I was there covering the story, and my photograph of the Asbury Park Lifeguards made the cover of the book New Jersey 24/7.
