This is written by Charles Krauthammer:*
“Whenever we bestow upon anyone the authority to wield the power of the state over free citizens, we make them swear to protect not the people, not the nation, not the flag, but the Constitution of the United States.
“A piece of paper. Of course, it stands for the pillars of the American experiment itself: the ideas, the structures, the philosophy that define a limited government with enumerated powers, whose mission is to preserve liberty and individual rights.”
*The Point of It All is Krauthammer’s book published posthumously in 2018. The subtitle is “A Lifetime of Great Loves and Endeavors.”
CAST OF THE BROADWAY SHOW: PROMISES PROMISES
Kevin – You are correct. How has it gotten to this stage? Sad.
Municipalities must operate within three major constraints.:
First, they, may not exercise their authority in ways which conflict with provisions of the federal or state constitutions.
Second, municipal authority may not be exercised in conflict with authority exercised by the county, state or federal government’s.
And third, municipal authority must be exercised in strict conformity with the provisions of the Municipal Land Use Law (MLUL)
Mr. Bredin has been fighting the Township for years now to force them to follow these court orders.
Not one Township attorney nor any of the Township Committee members have shown the least amount of interest in following the law as it is required to be followed for Ocean Grove. Instead, they have functioned as thugs against Mr. Bredin and the residents of OG. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Brings to mind a song from Mary Poppins. “I Love To Laugh”
Editor’s note: How about “A Spoonful of Sugar?” Or perhaps “Let’s Go Fly a Kite”
And what about adherence to the State of New Jersey which ordered Neptune to bring its zoning into compliance with the State’s RSIS parking regulations?
I am interested in the part which says, “Under the authority of the people.” After all, power in our democracy flows down from the Constitution and the Federal government.
When it gets local, the local government is subsidiary to the State. And all levels of government ultimately derive their power from the people.
So, does the Neptune Township Government respect the opinions and mandates stated by the citizens of Ocean Grove? Are you Grovers satisfied with our governance and its adherence to this oath?
