Michael Howard Goldfinger takes a bow after his bris (circumcision) in New York City. Goldfinger family album. Photo by Dad.
Michael was born 8 days before this scene at New York’s Mt. Sinai Hospital where Eileen got to be in the Klingenstein Pavilion on Fifth Avenue where they served her lobster….she didn’t want to leave.
The Klingenstein Pavilion was seen in Woody’s movie Hannah and Her Sisters. Remember the scene when he learned that he had no brain tumor so he ran out onto Fifth Avenue leaping into the air?
“Traditionally a mohel is a rabbi, a cantor or another religious leader who performs the brit milah, or bris, a circumcision ceremony, on an 8-day-old Jewish boy.” (Wiki)
Michael is our second son (I called him “#2 son” as in the Charlie Chan movies.) I don’t think he liked that nick name much. Now he is a father of a son himself.
As for the bris, it was a happy occasion which only took a few minutes conducted by an expert. They let him suck on a gauze pad with a little Kosher wine for anesthesia. Then he got to take a bow (above) and everybody loudly shouted “mazel tov” and applauded. And then we ate.
DARLENE LOVE AND BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN “A Fine Fine Boy” Clarence Clemons played the sax solo at the bris.
