BOB DYLAN: “Rainy Day Women #12 & 35. This controversial song contains no lyric about rain. And the line “every body must get stoned” is also subject to debate. This woman was sitting alone in an A.Park doorway. It is a candid shot, and you can find your own interpretation. She was smoking a cigarette.
I didn’t speak to her, and she didn’t notice me sitting in my car. The lyrics seem to say something about her. —Paul Goldfinger, Editor @Blogfinger.net
“Well, they’ll stone you when you’re trying to be so good
They’ll stone you just like they said they would
They’ll stone you when you’re trying to go home
And they’ll stone you when you’re there all alone
But I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must get stoned”
During the recording of this song, all the musicians were having some alcohol.. Dhylan wanted brass, so they had a tuba and a trombone. There also was a trumpet, and the raucous voices in the back were intentional for the desired effect.
