The Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association (OGCMA) continues its weekly series of free organ recitals on Wednesday September 1st (7:30 pm) with “Of Special Note,” an organ/harp/violin recital featuring organist Gordon Turk, harpist Merynda Adams, and violins Byung-Kook Kwak at the Great Auditorium.

b. Ocean Grove Homeowners Ass.
This organization, aka Home Groaners, has so little to say that their web site shows no minutes and their ZOOM meetings should be set on “mute.”
This is their alleged purpose:
“The mission of the OGHOA is to protect and enhance property values and the quality of life in Ocean Grove. “ (OGHOA web site assertion) Really?
c. HAS THE HPC COMPLETED ITS ASSESSMENT OF THE NORTH END PLAN? HAVE THEY GIVEN THEIR BLESSING? WILL THERE BE A POOL ON THE ROOF?
The North End developers (aka re-developers, AKA OGNED ) were supposedly undergoing a redevelopment colonoscopy at the HPC. But as usual the HPC says nothing. You can’t even tell from their minutes what’s going on.
Transparency has been dead at the HPC for some time. Doesn’t Neptune Township owe the Ocean Grove citizens a full report? After all, what happens at our North End will impact OG forever or until a local version of the French Revolution emerges at the Mother Ship and the mob reverses all of it.
Let’s change the name of this group to the Historic Aggravation Commission. (ie HACK)
And, by the way, speaking of historic appreciation , if the old North End Hotel complex (hotel, shops, games, restaurants, etc) was so wonderful and is supposedly the historic precedent that would allow the NERP to be built, then how come it was not rebuilt in the last 80 years?
So maybe the HACK should be disbanded and replaced by something better that will save our historic town.
Here’s a good song as we say goodnight to the HACK:

e. We are seeking volunteers for our video series: “Grovers on Porches Drinking Coffee and Telling Jokes.” All you need is one joke. We can even supply you with a joke if necessary.
The old North End Hotel had major fires in 1925 and again in 1938. You have not told us when it was last used as a hotel, but the wreckage was finally completely taken down (razed) around 1978, and it was last used as a hotel some time before that.
There is no evidence that the hotel was not re-built because of “Asbury race riots.” It is true that the entire Jersey Shore was in despair at around that time, but Ocean Grove recovered pretty well by the late 1990’s.
The site of the old North End Hotel has been left useless for about the last 40 years at least, and the WAVE developers materialized around 2007. So WAVE, with the CMA, and Neptune, could not make the project happen and they haven’t been honest with the public for the last 14 years.
Even now they seem to be stuck, and we have been following this process at Blogfinger since 2009, and no one ever said that this project would reproduce the”glory days” of the old North End Hotel.
No, from the start, they wanted a project that would generate a fortune for those involved. They abandoned the Master Plan and the prior single family zoning.
They don’t care about Ocean Grove history. They are just trying to satisfy the HPC with designs that would mimic the Victorian Era.
My point was that the delays are mostly related to money, not history.
When the demise of the North End Hotel was announced in the OGT on 7 April 1988, it was mentioned:
“For the first time in 75 years, the North End Hotel will not be open this summer, according to Beach Mgr. August G. Stoll Jr., who notes that the site has been leased for construction of a resort hotel complex.”
It was never built because Asbury Park had its race riot in 1970 that destroyed its status as a tourist attraction. Affordable jet travel to more exotic places affected the Jersey Shore in general. Ocean Grove was in its “Ocean Grave” period.
