Nearly a century ago, Halloween was a time of major vandalism. In 1922, boys from Ocean Grove and West Grove went on a rampage.
“Twenty or more of the boys were fined in various sums for giving way to their exuberance in celebrating.
They overturned and broke the large iron urn in Auditorium Square [in front of the present Association offices], threw a dozen or so of the boardwalk benches over on the beach, tore down the rustic bridge at Fletcher lake near Broadway, broke several globes and electric lightbulbs on the boardwalk.”
