Tell us what is going on in this movie scene.
March 2, 2021: We have a winner:
Tom Costantino (aka Tommaso C.) and Peter Stunz were both correct, but Tom’s submission came in a bit earlier. Susan came in third. Congratulations Tommaso. Our prize department will be in touch.
This is what Tom said: “The mortician, Amerigo Bonosera, asks the Godfather to kill 2 men who attacked his daughter. (Fun fact – my uncles name was Amerigo too”)
You may recall that the movie opens at the Godfather’s daughter’s wedding. It is a fabulous scene, but the Godfather is in his office receiving visitors who seek favors on this special day. The mortician begs Vito Corleone for help. The Godfather makes him squirm because the man never so much as invited the Godfather over for coffee.
But finally the Godfather promises justice for the mortician, but there will be a debt to be paid in the future. Godfather says, ” Some day, and that day may never come, I’ll call upon you to do a service for me. Until that day — accept this justice as a gift on my daughter’s wedding day. “
Interestingly, none of the contestants got the name of the movie precisely correct: It is “The Godfather,” but these days you have to distinguish 1, 2 or 3. This is “Godfather 1.”
Incidentally, “Godfather 3,” which was not well received and is not as good as 1 or 2, has been redone by Francis Ford Coppola, who supposedly wasn’t happy with the original part 3, so the new version is coming out soon.
