Marketwatch.com: “There is one problem with mail-in voting, but it’s a problem with voting overall: A 2019 Gallup poll found that 59% of Americans lack confidence in the honesty of elections for a range of reasons, including concerns about interference from foreign powers or domestic political elites, security worries and general frustration.”
NY Times: “There have been numerous independent studies and government reviews finding voter fraud extremely rare in all forms, including mail-in voting.”
“Election security is paramount, but it will be hard to achieve in the 2020 elections due to the massive increase in mail-in voting, experts said during an online briefing Thursday held by The Heritage Foundation. “
Mr Bredin,
My husband and l lived in Ocean Grove for over 30 yrs. After my Dad passed away we moved over to the home in Neptune that he built and that I grew up in. There are many days that Dad still gets more mail than we do…. its hysterical. The only thing that has not arrived, is his mail-in ballot.
So I see that as a good thing; a safe thing. There has to be some trust somewhere this year.
So yes, we voted, we deposited our ballots in the box at the Library. This is our new normal. It works for us.
I hope you feel comfortable with however you choose to vote. As long as we all vote for whoever we want to support……. that’s all that matters.
Trust in the system— as much as you can.
If you go to the polling place to vote, they will give you a provisional ballot. This process has caused some concern in terms of how these ballots are handled. This is what the County says:
Will I be permitted to vote in-person on a voting machine if I go to my polling place?
Only disabled voters will be permitted to vote on voting machines on election day. All other voters will be given paper provisional ballots.
A Provisional Paper Ballot is similar to voting on your VBM. (vote by mail) ballot, except that it must be verified after the election and is counted only after all of the mail-in ballots are counted.
We urge you to use your VBM Ballot, as Provisional Ballots are counted last and must be checked against the VBM Ballots that have already been cast before they are accepted and canvassed. (make sure you are not voting twice.)
Do all provisional ballots get counted?
ALL provisional paper ballots that are properly cast are canvassed and counted, after all of the mail-in ballots are counted.
Will I be notified if my provisional ballot is rejected?
YES. The Board of Elections will notify you of the reason why your ballot was not counted.
In case you don’t know, your signature on a paper ballot will be compared to the signature on file, as they used to do with on-site voting.
If the match is questioned, they will send you a “cure” letter which explains what you have to do to prove yourself and what the deadline will be for your response; otherwise your vote won’t count.
It’s glitches like this that make voters suspicious of the process. —PG
However, the fraud gets folded into the mix, when the Municipalities’ list of eligible voters continues to include dead people, and former residents who somehow manage to vote by Absentee Ballot every year for the Political party in power.
You can have armed guards around that ballot drop box 24/7 and never see the fraud.
Our ballots have been deposited in that ballot box at the Neptune Library. They have lights set up for everyone who needs to come later in the day, and I have been there a few times, picking up books, watching people drop their ballots while I wait.
It all seems safe. I understand there are cameras set up also. There is plenty of parking, no lines, just people coming and going as quickly as possible. It looks like it’s working very well.
