May 6. 2020:
From the NY Times : A CDC report, published by the Times on Monday, May 4, projected the daily U.S .death toll would double between now and June 1.
“As the administration presses for states to reopen their economies, it is privately projecting a steady rise in the number of coronavirus cases and deaths over the next several weeks. The daily death toll will reach about 3,000 on June 1, according to an internal document obtained by the Times, a 70% increase from the current number of about 1,750.
“The projections, based on government modeling pulled together by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, forecast about 200,000 new cases each day by the end of the month, up from about 25,000 cases a day currently.”
And, boys and girls, did you know that the original strain of corona virus has mutated into something more contagious and more dangerous, and it is already in the US?
So, CMA (Counting Money Assoc.) and Neptuner Comedy, are you still feeling good about opening up our boardwalk? You are encouraging thousands of virus-laden tourists to come into our town, walking on our streets, parking tightly together, and jamming the boardwalk and beach and pier on weekends, often without masks.
And what are you getting for it besides increased jeopardy for our citizens and their friends and families including our children?
Do you realize that apparently healthy adults can be infected and can be a source of transmission and do you know that “healthy” children can carry virus loads and infect others? Then a child can bring it home and transmit it to his friends on the block and his grandparents at home.
What are you two genius organizations going to do to protect the people of this town?
PS Try to remember this next time you vote in Neptune and the next time the CMA asks for money and support and the next time the CMA smothers our town with thousands of tourists and outdoor activities.
And keep in mind our good neighbors like Mary’s Place which uses the Grove as a home base for fund raising activities while showing no interest in the town itself.
And the same applies to the Chamber of Commercials next time they demand that our streets be closed so they can bring crowds, cars to park, noisy music, bad food, and useless gadgets for sale to our beautiful downtown.
Here is Jerry Orbach from The Fantasticks advising us to “try to remember:”
The original El Gallo! Not sure if it’s still true to this day, but Jerry has the record for the most B’way performances ever. He won a special Tony for it. Most only know him from Law & Order, but he was a legend in musicals and plays for a few decades.
