An eyewitness citizen reporter tells us that a couple today came here for the day from Middletown.
They said they came to Ocean Grove because “it’s the only place open.”
A Grover went to the boardwalk, looked around and went home.
Our reporter tells us, “People were definitely not 6 feet apart in many spots, and MANY were not wearing masks.”
Regarding the photos: “The images don’t quite convey just how crowded it actually was.”
“It was clear that many of the parking spots along Ocean Avenue were taken, and many groups were either entering or exiting their vehicles there.”
“That means that many people had come from out of town.”
“It was difficult to move quickly and avoid people while trying to snap pictures and hold my bag. That’s why there aren’t as many telling photos as I might have otherwise gotten.”
Editor’s note: As long as we are the only boardwalk open nearby, huge volumes of corona virus will continue to pour into town.
All of you need to contact the Governor’s office and ask him to intervene in this OG public health emergency.
And, this is only the beginning of concerns. Young party goers will be soon arriving in Asbury Park, and we will see them and their cars in the Grove. This is an irresponsible crowd and this is how they see the Jersey Shore:
Prevention must be enhanced in Ocean Grove. Only residents should be allowed on our boards and beach, and the CMA should be forbidden to open Tent Village. It endangers all of us. These people think they are in a bubble within our town, but they are not.
Jerseysbest.com says that “Gov Murphy continues to implore NJ residents to remain at their primary residences rather than their shore houses. He emphasized that the shore communities do not have the infrastructure in place for the influx of large amounts of people in the off-season.”
The lack of communication by the CMA during this pandemic and now their planned opening of the tents suggests that they intend to go all out for their summer programming this season, and let the residents of OG be damned.
Their behavior will compromise their relationship with Ocean Grove residents for years to come.
This is how the CMA opened the Together Fund booklet: “May what we do and how we do it strengthen and rebuild Ocean Grove.” Really?? Their careless love for the people of OG will come back to haunt them.
Do you think the CUVID-19 epidemic will be over in time for the CMA to bring thousands of tourists into town? Why doesn’t the Asbury Park Press interview Pres. Badger now? And the Neptune Comedy has shown no interest in our Grovarian concerns about our health.
BIG MAYBELLE: “CARELESS LOVE.”
This website was… how do you say it? Relevant!!
Finally I’ve found something which helped me. Thanks a lot!
Thanks.
My wife and I took a walk to the beach around 1 o’clock and it was very very crowded on the boardwalk. We wore masks and kept our distance but it was unnerving to us to see so many folks close together and many, as you report, unmasked.
We left and walked thru the streets of OG instead, and it was a beautiful day to do so.
