From John Rooney
“Hi Paul. Years ago you had an excellent article about the various parks in town which featured a breakdown of who was responsible for each park: Camp Meeting or Neptune.
“However the park where New Jersey Avenue ends in the south where the clay tennis courts are located did not make the list. For some reason it was decided fall of 2019 to store the beach lockers there. Long story short the park has been destroyed by the tractors that move the lockers.
“Whoever’s responsible for the maintenance of the park is guilty of its destruction. The park belongs to the people of the community. It is arrogance and hubris to “provide” a park and then act like your doing us a favor.
“If an organization decides to take it upon themselves to oversee something, it does not give them the right to destroy it. This land belongs to you and me. Period.”
Editor’s note: Below is a link to our article about OG park names. I can’t find the park which John references on a map. John could inquire over at the DPW on Heck Avenue in Neptune. Then he could lodge a complaint at the Mother Ship or with the DPW commander in chief.
Here is a photo of a grassy area by the tennis courts. That may not be a named park. It was once proposed as a good spot for a dog park, but the CMA turned that idea down. Maybe that is the “park” which John is referring to.
JACK JOHNSON:
Around 1920 there was a tax fight between the OGCMA and the State over tax exempt property in OG. The two agreed on what property’s would be permitted tax exempt status.
It is time that this be made clear from the State to establish what properties are in fact tax exempt to show that tax payers are not being cheated by the Township, it’s tax assessor, and the OGCMA.

Yes. The photo is of the “park”. I guess it is not a official park rather more of a grass field. Nonetheless it is used by the people of the community for recreational purposes and it has been destroyed. I guess it was too valuable for a dog park but not so important that they couldn’t purposefully engage in its injury.
