“It’s a big plus that I can walk over. Definitely one of the perks of living in Ocean Grove.”

THE BIG BEAR BAND:
Jake: The Fall Festival in OG is nothing like the Middle Ages when the serfs would get together for market day. They would grab a few onions and potatoes, and perhaps a pig or two or a goat.
Then they would shlep into town to meet their neighbors who live in hovels around the moat. They all knew each other–there were no tourists, because no one from out of town would come except an errant knight or two looking to rape and pillage.
Our modern day harvest festival is its own meaningless invention, and, there is no solidarity and very few bumping into neighbors.
Festivals have been going on since the middle ages…there is a solidarity that comes from enjoying a day out and bumping into neighbors that is time honored.
The pic is great Jean. If I talked to the Chamber I would ask for more of the same.
You might consider complaining to the Chamber of Commercials. As far as I am concerned, they should cancel all those Chamber events which bring little of value to the townspeople. It’s just more lures to get tourists to mill around and shop, making the Grove look and feel like any old ordinary shore town.
But many Grovers, like Jean, enjoy it year after year, and her fine street-photo did capture an annual lifestyle event in OG, and the best part of such street fairs is the people watching.
Doesn’t that event get old? Same old stuff over and over and over and over.
