From Innocent Bystander:
104 Mt. Carmel (corner of New Jersey) rents as an Airbnb. Apparently this weekend, a particularly vociferous group of young men are there: every other word is “f—ing” this or that. I hear this half a block away. And it’s not even 1 pm Friday afternoon yet. I can imagine what it will be like after much more drinking this weekend. I guess these guys couldn’t find a place near the Belmar bars, so chose this site across the bridge from Biergarten.
Editor’s note: This Grover wants to tell us about a party near him, but what is his question? Are we turning into Belmar? That’s more likely than the “gang who can’t shoot straight” turning our North End into Asbury Park. Or is this yet another Airbnb complaint/ issue ? Or is it about the F word?

To Tom: Youthful revel is a strange and wonderful thing. They are happy as clams to be in a clean, wholesome environment, maybe too pleased. But you do have to be choosy about who you let in. The best policy is apology. If they can’t do that, t is a marker. If they can do it, it is also a marker. It is not the indiscretion, it is the person.
We have all opened our doors, and did it the first day we moved in. There is a movie, “Let the Right One In.” But as feminist ideals, religious tolerance, and Constitutional integrity have taught us, it is not really about us, it’s about them.
First, my apologies. I’m the owner of the house. I rented it to these individuals. I accept responsibility. Unfortunately I was not aware of this activity until after the incident (when they left). My wife and I understand the wonderful environment of Ocean Grove (stayed with our family during the summer for years) and feel terrible that these people abused their stay in this way.
We have been hosting this house with Airbnb for two years. We have never had this happen before. But since this happened we’ve changed how we accept reservations. Prior to accepting a reservation we explain the type of guests we expect. We explain that partying is not accepted. We make sure that the group that wishes to stay understands that this type of activity is NOT accepted.
Further, I have provided our neighbors with our home phone number to contact us at any hour if something like this happens again. While I don’t see this happening again, we are confident that we will be in position to take immediate activity if it does.
Riding around town on Friday night I felt like I was in NYC. Rude drivers, speeders, double parking on narrow one way streets, running stop signs. Yup, this place has changed and not for the better.
There’s an Airbnb near us. Some good, some bad renters. Noisy party people don’t care about neighbors because they are only here for a few days won’t see you again after Monday.
Ocean Grove is definitely becoming more like Belmar. Noisy and disrespectful neighbors are an all summer occurrence on my block. The summer renters dont have the excuse of being college kids. They are grown women often blasting music and talking loudly late into the night often on weeknights. They have zero respect for the people who actually live here and go to work in the morning. Ocean Grove used to be my happy place but sadly those days are over.
The scene at 104 Mount Carmel is disgrace. Drinking, cursing, yelling, playing football in the street – all this beginning at 10 AM in the morning.
Was there a Certificate of Occupancy listing the names of the 20 plus partiers staying there? Neptune Code Enforcement was called – but of course they never pick up the phone or return calls. Camp Meeting Association is useless.
This behavior would not be tolerated in Belmar where they would be fined.
