On the other hand, here’s a song (1926) which, if sung by a man, would show him romantically pursing a woman by denigrating himself, something that is perfectly understandable as a male tactic, but if sung by a woman would probably be condemned by today’s feminists as groveling. Maybe today a woman might refuse to record this song.

And by comparison, here is Dean Martin, who, despite the same lyrics, seems to be the swinging seducer who retains his superior confidence.
Some songs only work for one sex or the other even if the lyrics have no “he” or “she” designations. That has to do with society’s preconceptions, even today.
