On April 27, the OGCMA said, “Completion of the boards and the Pavilion are ‘on target’ for Memorial Day weekend.”
Today, May 21, we find many workers hustling, but there appears to be no way that this project will be finished for next weekend. We spoke to a couple of workers who doubted that the unfinished boardwalk, still without Trex from the Pavilion to just south of Seaview Avenue, could be done in time.
Is it possible that a miracle could happen? They smiled and said, “Yes.”
SEAN HAYES. Soundtrack of Promises, Promises.
I would be surprised if it is finished by July 4th. You may have seen many workers, but for the past month or two this project has been severely understaffed in my opinion. I’m hoping that for the loyal citizens of OG, who buy seasonal badges, some temporary walkways and stairs can be configured at streets that usually have access. Yet another example of the North End getting the short end of the stick.
Editor’s note: On April 20 BF posted a piece about the slow progress at the northern section of the boardwalk. For this we received a rebuke from the CMA. (link below.)
I did notice a cement walkway onto the beach at Surf Avenue, but I did not conduct a comprehensive inspection—high risk of splinters. —Paul @Blogfinger.net

Until about 2 weeks ago, I saw 3 or 4 guys a day working, knocking off by 4 pm. Recently, they have increased the number of workers and are working 8 Days a Week! (Really 6, never the Lord’s Day.)
When Belmar repaired their Sandy-damaged boardwalk, they got FEMA money and some donations. They acknowledged those who were generous on plaques as Big Kahunas, Surf Riders, Sun Worshippers, Boogie Boarders, etc. (depending on amount given.)
OGCMA may be using the “Together” funds collected in 2013 to do current repairs ($1.5 million before OGCMA received FEMA money). Are they going to acknowledge donors? I gave $10,000. So I should be a Big Kahuna.
Editor’s note: There is a list of donors at Auditorium Square Park, but some names were left out including the 2nd Annual Blogfinger Film Festival which donated every cent of the profits to the Together Fund.

Gross negligence and incompetence if this is not completed by Memorial Day weekend. It also represents a safety hazard as people are walking in the street.

I checked up on the boardwalk today and must admit, I was pleasantly surprised. There is a large, hard working crew making visible progress. A rabbit may yet be pulled out of the beach bag.
