Recently a trustee of the OGHOA, Kennedy Buckley, asserted on NextDoor.com that anonymous opinions are fake news.
Today another official of that group, Nancy Clarke said, “If you don’t show and speak at the parking meeting, no one will know what you think.”
But Nancy seems to forget that we can express our opinions in many ways other than at a meeting where you might get 5 minutes to speak, if at all, and you might have to wait for hours to do so. Save the wait and comment on Blogfinger. Then thousands of people will know what you think. And you can email the Committeemen (Neptunetownship.org.)
And then she goes on to say, “It’s like not voting and then complaining about those elected to office.” Nancy.–what’s wrong with not voting and then complaining about the result? People do it all the time. Do you really want to condemn Americans for that? And do you think that you will get to vote at that meeting? Not!
And as for the parking meeting, she says, “If you don’t show, don’t complain about the result.”
So who is going to enforce the Nancy Rule regarding the rights of complainers?
Then, also on Next Door.com is another Grover, Lorrie Losapio, who says, “You can’t have it both ways. No complaints if you choose not to participate.” So here is another one who wants to deny free speech.
On Blogfinger we welcome complainers. We want complainers. Freedom to complain is in the Constitution!!
THE COASTERS:
Hi Lorrie. My first complaint is about the spelling of your first name—always a challenge since I know a few Lauries, but I can’t remember which spelling is correct.
Your comment, “You can’t have it both ways. No complaints if you choose not to participate” is problematic despite its brevity because it contains 3 negatives.
However, when you said “No complaints if you choose not to participate,” you are demanding that those who don’t “participate” (whatever that means) refrain from complaining, and so that qualifies as trying to stifle speech, even though in a minor way. You are now trying to spin it as a positive statement about responsibility, but what you said is quite negative.
And regarding my criticism of OG residents because of their apathy, I am asking for more speech, not, like you, less.
Thanks for participating in our dialogue.—-Paul @Blogfinger
Wow! Thank you for my 15 minutes of fame. If you knew me, you would know I’m the last person you want to accuse of denying free speech. Rather, I was expressing the concept of responsibility: Don’t complain if you leave it up to others to make all the decisions.
Interestingly, you complain about the lack of involvement by Ocean Grove residents. I’m surprised that you would criticize a call for involvement. Happy Monday!
