Perry Young of New Hampshire loves to visit Ocean Grove each year, and he used to love to hear his favorite Doo Wop group: Kenny Vance and the Planotones.
Now he sends us another group with the choreography of the day. And he offers a comment–he always writes to me with paper and pen–no emails from New Hampshire.
“Hello Paul, I think Earl Lewis compares to Kenny on those high notes. All the best, Perry.”
The falsetto parts were key to many of those groups of the ’50’s into the ’60’s. Kenny Vance came along later and he was hitting high notes until just a few years ago when he retired.* But Johnny Maestro (with the Crests and Brooklyn Bridge) also did well with those parts.
Here’s a sample of Kenny Vance with the Planotones, performing “Lonely Way.” *We hear (2022) that Kenny is back in the saddle again. What a shame that he won’t be back in the GA.
