To the west a fresh water stream flowed into the Lake mixing with Ocean salt water that also flowed into the Lake at high tide.
The stream along with several hundred feet of Wesley Lake were filled in for development and replaced with a system of street water runoff pipes from Neptune and Asbury Park.
To the east, the Ocean inlet was also filled in and replaced with the present dam and outflow pipe to the Ocean.
The fresh water from the east and the salt water from the Ocean were cut off and replaced with a diet of polluted street water.
This is what killed the Lake.
The Lake created by Nature is being destroyed by man.
The good news is the Lake can still be restored to its pre 1905 condition.
The bad news is there is no Local Political Will to do so.

1905……….Is that the era when the Atlantic Ocean had a wonderful relationship with the inland fresh water stream?
