I was attracted to Cardinal while walking by. It seemed like a colorful photo-op, and I liked the young mom outside and the gesticulating tattoo guy inside. But when I walked inside, it was clear that this restaurant is doing very well indeed.
We have not actually eaten at Cardinal yet, but it was doing a booming business on a Thursday at lunchtime. I walked inside and asked for the manager. She said, “We’re very busy.”
I said that I would be just a few minutes. I aimed my camera and began photographing. In my viewfinder I immediately saw a guy at the counter and another guy at a table duck for cover. They did not want their picture taken.
I spent about one minute inside and then a group of women entered, chattering away, and blocking my view. It was time to leave.
So outside I admired little Etta, telling mom about Etta James, the jazz singer, but she already knew that.
Cardinal is the result of a collaboration between two chefs. It is a breakfast, lunch and brunch eatery which is very highly rated by Yelp. They also do catering.
The menu is quite inventive although pricey, but if the ratings are reliable, it should be good to try.
