From Paul Devine of OG:
“Paul,
“An observation: Someone missed the memo on diagonal parking. Had the driver parked diagonally half the street would have been blocked. ”
Editor’s note: Before the new diagonal parking had been striped along the edge of Firemen’s Park, we pointed out that the stretch of curbing along the park, as shown in this photo, served a useful purpose of allowing truck and bus drivers or even car drivers to parallel park and enjoy the chance to gather their thoughts, get some rest, check a map, have a coffee, etc. It was a really useful function that provided a real honest-to-God human need, but, of course, the OGHOA and the Township ignored that and other reasons as to why parallel parking there should have been left alone.
Paul, you are correct, and others have also pointed out, that big vehicles, which many folks have these days, stick out in a dangerous way when parked diagonally, especially on our narrow streets, creating an obstruction and compromising vision. So we gained 18 spaces, but what if there is one mishap because of this? Who will stand up and take responsibility for that? ——Paul @Blogfinger
This truck driver needed to stop, park, for whatever reason, and because of diagonal parking, he had to do what he had to do…..parallel park.
Thank you Paul Devine for being “Johnny on the Spot.” One picture is worth 1,000 words!
It sends home the message “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”
