Reposted from 2013, and she hasn’t changed a bit. People would say that Eileen looked like somebody else. My mother said that Eileen looked like “Shrimpton” (Jean Shrimpton was a super model from England. ) She was peaking on the covers of magazines while Eileen was peaking as a super coed at GWU. I thought Eileen looked like Astrud Gilberto, the samba princess–the girl from Ipanema.
We never heard Astrud perform, but when we were in Washington, DC was a bossa nova hot spot because guitarist Charlie Byrd lived there, and we did hear him perform live in a jazz club off Dupont Circle. Byrd was one of the early pioneers of Brazilian jazz music. In 1962 he and Stan Getz made one of the first jazz samba albums, recorded in a church in D.C.
