We found this gourmet deli while waiting to see a movie at the Showroom on Cookman Avenue. The Speakeatery is next door at #705. We met one of the owners—Greg Vermilyea who said that they have been open for 3 years at this location. The business started out as a grocery store, but has evolved into a deli with all fresh, homemade goods. They still have a small produce section in case you need a few items on the go.
Greg raves about their hot pastrami, their sandwiches and a variety of soups which he says are very popular. Other “classic” dishes include mac ‘n cheese and chicken parmigiana. It is a small place, but there are some tables in case you want to eat in. What is particularly of interest to Grovers is that they deliver from 11 am-3 pm.
The specialty sandwiches are enticing including a reuben, fried eggplant, Cuban, and cheesesteak. There are many other selections such as mac ‘n cheese and meatball parmigiana heroes.. You can see the variety at their web site:
- Mon-Thu: 11 am – 7 pm
- Fri-Sat: 11 am – 8 pm
- Sun: 11 am – 6 PM
