From Prosper Bellizia (Blogfinger staff): These signs appeared at each of the former locations of beach drinking fountains. The fountains were here for years.
The questions are: When did the potable water fountains become “non-potable”?
Who determined the water was not drinkable?
BRAD PAISLEY
I asked. Folks at the beach office said: “The pipes are old, and our lawyers said we should cap the fountains and put up the signs.”
Your ground rent at work folks! Let the nosy lawyers walk to Bradley Beach to drink something safer. I’ve been drinking this water since at least 1982 and will continue to do so. Same water comes out of the beach showers, the fountains, and your home tap. If I die, it won’t be from this!

I too wondered what happened to the water fountains. After dehydrating in the sun for hours I would rather enjoy the rusty taste of the warm water. Is the beach now a strictly BYOW beach. Where do the step guards go to quench their thirst? Do they have a source of water that could be shared with beach patrons?

If the pipes are old and we can no longer drink the water…shouldn’t the pipes be replaced so that we can drink the water…since we are paying for those pipes??

I am thinking “….this is another example of OGCMA nonsense! Considering the beach fees are OGCMA’s biggest money maker – and they are only allowed to spend that money for beach use, why the heck aren’t they replacing the pipes?

The signs also say the water is not for “cooking use.” Leaving aside the question of how many people ever use that water to cook on the beach, what does it mean about using it to cook at home?

All great comments. Again the operations in this town for which we not only pay taxes, but we also pay ground rent doesn’t seem to go to the care and well being of Ocean Grove. Where is it going, and if I stop paying, will anyone notice?

Brigid,
The CMA, Counting Money Association, WILL notice if you do not pay land rent, especially if you pay a LOT for your lot (eg. newer condos and houses $500 to $800 a year—or more.)
The real question is can the CMA do anything if you don’t pay? I know someone who has not paid $10.50/year land rent for more than a decade. Try skipping your taxes for one year and see what happens. This shows that the CMA really has no authority (since OG is part of Neptune.) Our Neptune tax bills (due 8/1) list “land” and “improvement”.
How can we be charged a TAX on one piece of land to two authorities?
