From Penny of Ocean Grove: Does anyone know how this condo project got to have private parking on a public street? Is this another example of shady zoning to provide cover for a developer in the Grove?
From a concert version of My Fair Lady, honoring Alan Jay Lerner:
I wonder if that parking arrangement wasn’t actually required of the builder by Neptune Twp. in order to gain approval to build the condos in the first place. At least twice the number of cars should fit into the space as might fit with more conventional parallel street parking.
As for the resulting aesthetics — perhaps this is another example of the “Law of Unintended Consequences”, which might be a more appropriate NJ nickname than “The Garden State”!
Wonder just who the developer was?
Its difficult to believe that OG leaders once thought this complex was in keeping with the aesthetics of the town. I like to pretend it does not exist.
R. U. Serious: It may look like private property or a driveway to you, and maybe it looks like the Parachute Jump to somebody else, but it is the exact continuation of Whitefield Avenue, so it is Whitefield Avenue. How it became private is the question. —Paul @Blogfinger
About a month ago I had drove through these condo’s and thought I was driving on private property. There is no reason not to. No lines in middle of this section and does not resemble anything but a private driveway.
That area was where the horse stables were, so one could say that was an original parking lot sold to developers in the late 70’s early 80’s. Very controversial back then.
Where is the property line? My guess is that the parking spaces there are technically on the condo’s property, not on the public street. It’s essentially a driveway — or a bunch of driveways.
