Marty is correct in that the standing light in the foreground is the old light and the light on the ground being assembled by the two workmen is the new light fixture.
Better late than never. We’ve been in the dark for quite a while!
Thanks Marty. Why are you standing alone on this? Don’t you Broadway people have a citizens activism group? I thought you had one when the flooding problem came up again, but I think that group got usurped by the OGHOA which should be enthusiastically involved with issues such as this, but they are not. They are all talk and no action—thus my nickname of the Home Groaners Association.
Paul -This picture is of the old Broadway lights. The picture you posted on June 17,2015 is one of the new lights.
In terms of aesthetics, there is no comparison – the old ones are far superior in design and appropriateness to Ocean Grove’s Victorian heritage.
My concerns are the following: Where are the old ones? Who was involved in the selection and approval of the new lights with tall, plain, “pipe-like” posts? Did they come before the HPC?
For the last ten years I have attempted to find out who would be responsible to paint the posts as they had become unsightly from the weather and people posting signs on them. No one seemed to know or care. As a result it was never done.
Painting the posts of the old lights and replacing the ones that were newer would have been less expensive and more apropos.
Broadway is the gateway entrance to Ocean Grove, and as such deserves lighting commensurate with its importance.
