Asbury Avenue near Delaware, No parking Sunday, April 26, 6 am to 1 pm. You should move your car no later than 7 am and you will be able to return after 1 pm.
Welcome to the Blogfinger “Stop-Go-Don’t Park-Run News Department;”
From Davis:
Paul,
Neptune workers are busy posting signs for no parking on Sunday on our street, Asbury Ave. I assume a bike or running event. Wouldn’t it be nice if the Neptune street sweeper were to make an appearance prior to such an event. It would certainly make a better impression.
Wishful thinking.
Anybody know what’s going on over there?
Editor’s Note: The sign says, “Emergency no parking on this sides (sic) of the street. Sunday, April 26, 6 am -1 pm”

Here’s the scoop: Sunday is the annual New Jersey Marathon which will be coming through Ocean Grove at about the 17 th mile. They begin at the Monmouth Racetrack. First the handicapped entrants will show up in Ocean Grove at at about 8 am; then the lead runners at about 9 am, and then the major clump of runners at about 11 am. It will be chilly, so expect the runners to wear more clothes this year, although runners tell me that the cold doesn’t bother them. At least they need Gore-tex lined jock straps or shrinkage might set in. Don’t know what the women wear underneath. This race is a qualifier for major runs such as Boston and New York.
The runners will enter the Grove from Asbury by Dunkin’ Donuts onto Lawrence Avenue; then they turn right onto Mt. Hermon and then left onto Benson. They take Benson to Asbury Avenue where they turn right.
They take Asbury Avenue to Pilgrim Pathway and turn right there toward the Great Auditorium; They go from there down Ocean Pathway to Ocean Avenue where they turn right and then make a U turn at Main Street. They take Ocean Avenue back north into Asbury Park.

How about those “STOP FOR PEDESTRIAN SIGNS?”

Can you count on drivers stopping? Better wait until they actually stop. Blogfinger photo Main Ave at Delaware. The sign is a bit confusing. Some drivers think it means “stop for little black men.”
This May and June, watch for the NTPD in plain clothes conducting some decoy events to catch drivers who blow past those signs. At first it will be an educational emphasis, but if you do eventually get a ticket, it will cost $200.00 plus $33.00 in court costs plus 2 points. And you will be in extra trouble if you drive past while talking on a phone or texting or saying anything derogatory about the pink line.
For more information, Sgt. Michael Zarro of the Neptune Township Police Dept (He’s the traffic officer) will be happy to talk to you. 732-988-8000 ext 433.

OGgrover. I have noticed for the past two months ( I live on the north side of town), groups of people parking near my house & proceed to walk towards Asbury. I can just image what the parking problems will be once the weather warms up!
I really believe that each home owner in the Grove should get one permanent parking space. It won’t eliminate the parking issue, but it would help Ocean Grovers with “parking stress”.

This is the sort of thing that bothers me. Getting info about an event happening in town from an ‘unofficial’ website rather than the town itself. Don’t get me wrong I always ‘tune’ to Bloggy to find things out but I really shouldn’t have to. A ‘because of’ notice line on the sign would be helpful or maybe a robo call. Thing is, having one long street closed for several hours in the parking starved North End IS a big deal. Since the ban starts at at 6 AM I’m sure most will park elsewhere the night before. With Weekend Asbury Park revelers taking spaces to avoid meters, it could be extra tight here.
