The Barbaric Bean suffered serious damage from smoke, water, and heat. If you look on the west side of the building you can see where the windows were destroyed during the fire and smoke freely ran into the building causing a lot of smoke damage. The upper part of the wall and roof were singed on the west side of the building.
I think that the front awning was singed on the right corner as well from all of the heat! Standing there and looking at the carnage…I believe that the firemen did an incredible job isolating the fire to the one area and making the effort to save the whole block from burning to the ground. My hat’s off to them!
There is currently a demolition crew gutting all floors of the building with a yard dumpster out on Main Street for the debris removal. I could get no real info from the demo crew as they just have the demolition part of the job, so I could get no timeframe for the total of the repairs.
For right now we can be grateful that the building is still standing and it will be a process to bring it back online.
Editor’s note: The owner hopes that the building at 48 Main Avenue might be ready to re-open in May.
