Tuesday, Feb 24, 2015. The dirt saga continues. We have received a report from the Township Committee meeting last night, Feb. 23, 2015, that the subject of the Jersey Shore Arts Center dirt piles was discussed.
Even though only one OG citizen attended to bring up the matter, the Coaster decided to get itself involved by jumping into the muck. They interviewed a Township official who, we are told, asserted that the JSAC dumping was a recent and temporary situation and that the cleanup was nearly done.
But, regardless of what was said last night, the photo above speaks the truth.
Unfortunately, Ocean Grove’s citizens are hopelessly at the mercy of the Mother Ship, because the populace has been neutered by the ugly twins—cynicism and apathy. And it is not about just dirt piles.
You might recall the old saying that in a democracy, the people get the government it deserves. (? Alexis deTocqueville)
NO NO NO! It is pathetic that the residents have NO interest in what happens with their town; they’re like sheep going to the slaughter house.
What a SHAME we have NO representation for us. What we have in office now is pathetic and a disgrace to the community.
The Home Owners Ass. has no clout. Their meetings are a lot of chatter with nothing being resolved that will benifit the community. And when there are issues addressed by the public they don’t back the residents. They have good intentions but the end result is never followed through.
A prime example is they had a committee for the North End. They concurred that 88 condos are fine with a hotel. What happened to our Master Plan that states we are a SINGLE FAMILY COMMUNITY— not a condo community like Florida.
There was NO fight to stop the condo’s. Their answer was: we stopped them from building more then 88 condos….CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT THE IMPACT THIS WOULD BE FOR OCEAN GROVE? It would totally destroy the North End residents. It would be a huge wall of condos overshadowing the homes. There would be flood issues along with sewer, water, and electric strains.
The town is a mess, and the people need to smarten up. ONCE THIS PROJECT STARTS IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP; IT NEEDS TO BE STOPPED AT THE BEGINNING.
Thanks fact checker. They are the Gannons who were going to build the North End Redevelopment Project for Wave and also the old OG High School Condo Project (high density condo projects) Can you just imagine?
Also, they are currently building the new Mary’s Place Project on Main Avenue in which some of this dirt was from this project as well as all the dirt that is currently dumped on the empty lot at Beach and Heck.
Helen: Of course you are right. In New York City you have a myriad of neighborhood advocacy groups, and that is fine because those local groups, concerned with local issues, do make a difference. You fight small battles from within your neighborhood in order to make victory in the big battles possible—it’s like the broken window theory of law enforcement.
So what we need in Ocean Grove is for our part of Neptune to band together and demand that our citizens be respected and represented properly. One thing that all neighborhoods in Neptune need to seek is greater transparency by local government and to elect only those who will promise to place the citizens and their needs first and to agree to get rid of old boy networks and preferences. —Paul Goldfinger, Editor @Blogfinger
Sadly, the Township is divided into enclaves that have their own problems, and the folks in each are not in the least interested in the problems of others in the Township. It has been like that for years. I lived in OG for many years, but now live in western Neptune. Why should I be interested in OG dirt piles, when no one in OG is the least bit interested in the over-building of apartments surrounding my home?
The “Mother-ship” will only take notice when there is a united front and that will never happen.
Technically this property is not owned by the OG Historical Preservation Society. They sold it to 11 Edge LLC for $1,060,000 in April 2010. Then in April 2010 OGHPS gave a mortgage to 11 Edge LLC for $1,030,000. This mortgage was signed by William P. Gannon managing member of 11 Edge LLC.
This is very sad that no one cares about issues like this anymore. No one goes to township meetings and OGHOA meetings to talk about very important Ocean Grove issues. (illegal dumping at the very visible entrance to Ocean Grove and Broadway Drainage issues, etc.) Why is that? Apathy is rampant in Ocean Grove and Neptune Township in relation to very important town wide Issues I do not see it getting better. If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. . VERY SAD.
