Well, this one is not going on the resume…..
I will spare everyone the details of what went wrong with this storm other than to stay the capture of the surface low did not occur as planned so the track of the storm was about 75 miles further east.
So the major snow amounts projected to fall across much of NJ fell over central and eastern Long Island and central Connecticut.
It is bad enough along the coast here in Neptune where 8 to 10 inches of snow will fall by the end of the storm, or half the projected totals, but the forecast bust is monumental for inland sections where little snow has fallen.
There is always a zone where someone gets the shaft on snow amounts…this time it was New Jersey, versus the expectation that it would be eastern Pennsylvania.
Anyway, at this hour, the heaviest area of snow is in a triangle from northern Ocean County to Trenton and then up the Route 1 corridor to New Your City. Snow will be ending during the morning hours. Another inch or two will fall on top of what you have with areas of 3 inches within this heavier snow triangle. All snow should be over by noon.
Cold weather for Wednesday and Thursday. A clipper will bring some light mixed precipitation Thursday night followed by cold weather for the weekend.
The opportunity for redemption for forecasters may come as early next week as a storm ejects out of the southwest US and meets up with arctic air in place of the northeast U.S.

Our saving grace at the Jersey Shore was the wind; just went in a slightly different direction at the last moment. Lucky For us. Sad for those Northwards. We didn’t lose power, our roofs didn’t fall in, we dodged a big bullet.
It was scary enough, so let’s not blame the Weather Guys, let’s just thank Mother Nature.
“Blizzards” sell better than a coating to a few inches. Would you rather eat a single dip ice cream cone or a sundae? Just glad it was what it was; after all it is winter in the northeast. How much did Ft. Myers get?
Editor’s note: Fort Myers (southwest Fla) was frozen this morning at 60 degrees. These people complain about that; I’m fine—-used to the cold. But in Ft. Myers there is nary a Jersey plate to be found—nor a good bagel nor ice cream to compare to Days. No store is like Wegmans. They say that the pizza in Florida is lousy, but there is an Italian chef who comes to the Farmers’ Market with a wood burning stove. Like the Main Ave pizza place, he only makes one small size, but it is quite superb.
Last winter there was a hot dog guy at the farmers market named Jersey John; but he’s gone–replaced by a Chicago guy. The mid-westerners here seem to be all Packers fans—groan. They also don’t get my humor.
Met a guy from England yesterday. I told him that Churchill was a hero of mine. He said that he saw a show on TV commemorating Churchill’s death. I exclaimed with horror, “What? Churchill’s dead?” He appreciated the joke, roaring with laughter……so much for the British dry humor. I am glad that the Grove did not get clobbered too bad. I think about OG whenever I post the wrong weather forecast. —Paul
Rick, we’ll take less snow than forecast ANYTIME! Better to be prepared.
Approximately six inches in front of my house when I shoveled this morning,
I’m out of town (in the Poconos, where we got less than 2 inches yesterday – snow was done soon after nightfall) – how many inches have we gotten in the Grove so far?
Let’s not forget the parking regs. I heard they are going to ticket and tow. I’ll believe that when I see it, though. Robo call has already gone out.
