I’m wondering if anyone else in O.G. has had problems with mail delivery. We have experienced issues on two different occasions in the past month and a half. I know of someone else who has also had an issue. Maybe someone has an idea where to go for answers – or satisfaction.
Phone calls and a trip to the Neptune post office just resulted in excuses.
Just do you know, that loading zone is the only place large trucks have to drop off for the various restaurants and stores on Main without impeding traffic.
I’ve seen the cops ticket people who park there and their pleas of going into the post office fall on indifferent ears.
I can usually park in front of the OG post office. That zone is for drop offs, so zip right in there, put on your blinkers, and be out in 5-10 minutes. I’ve never had any hassles from law enforcement. —–Paul
Marylou — thanks for that info! What a shame — I hope they replace it. I often used that box because it was almost impossible to park in front of the OG post office.
Dr. Carol…the mailbox on the corner of Broadway and Lawrence is no longer there. I was walking over in that direction recently with letter in hand only to find an empty sidewalk. A neighbor told me that the mailbox was hit by a mail truck…sadly, the result was tragic. No more mailbox on Broadway and Lawrence 🙁
Don’t get me started….. I really miss the long-time carriers of OG. Many them got moved to making deliveries in Neptune. Some of the ones that replaced them are lackluster. My most recent Post Office debacle was just last week. I received a certified mail notice in my mailbox. I was home…. the carrier had the letter and didni’t even bother to knock or ring the doorbell to see if I was around for signature. The notice said I had to go the Neptune PO on Neptune Blvd, across from the high school, to get my certified mail. Which I thought was odd, I always picked up certified mail at the OGPO. So, Friday I go, wait in a long line, only to be told by the clerk…. Oh… you live in Ocean Grove, you have to go to the OG Post Office to retrieve this. I pointed out on the notice where its specifically stated 50 Neptune Blvd Post Office, printed in bold black letters! She said nope, despite what its says, if you live in OG, you have to go to the OGPO. I said if that’s the case, the carrier should of crossed out the incorrect address and written a note instructing me to go to the OGPO. The clerk had no answer for me. She didn’t care.
Sorry, I’m asking about the blue USPS mailboxes usually on a corner for sending out mail — not the rental kind for receiving mail.
Yes, I have mail forwarded over the summer to me in OG and last summer it was a disaster. I sprung for premium mail forwarding service — $17 a week, and my home post office is supposed to pack it up once a week on Wednesdays and send it to me via priority mail. Normally it would arrive Friday. After several weeks where it didn’t arrive until Tuesday, I called my home post office and was told the woman who handled the service was on vacation and no one was covering her responsibilities. Astonishing!
By the way, we had an awful time last winter getting our mail forwarded to Florida. It was a mess, and neither Neptune or the Fla. post office would solve the problem. Eventually it got fixed, but we went for weeks without any mail.
Our carrier never bothers to look for outgoing mail; it often sits there for a few days until I get some incoming mail. I’ve stopped relying on the home pick up for anything important and instead use a mailbox. Speaking of which, are there any other mailboxes in town other than at the post office and on Broadway & Lawrence?
I called th OG post office a few weeks back re: a hold mail question and the gentleman who answered told me that for almost a year now, no mail is delivered out of the OG post office….it all comes out of the Neptune PO now. I assume what he said is true…has anybody else heard the same?
There’s been a couple of new mail carriers at the OG post office this past year….they haven’t had time to learn the drill yet………Give em a little slack !
I just hope we never lose our own Ocean Grove post office. Many small post offices throughout the US are being closed. Complaints could be voiced to the Postmaster at the OG office. But, let’s make sure everyone knows we value our OG Post Office.

Carol: Try the UPS store. They have them.
