From Bythesea:
Most of the trees in Ocean Grove are improperly trimmed (e.g., topped and then allowed to grow hundreds of vertical runners) or not trimmed at all. UGLY!
Every tree on my block i is wildly overgrown. I get all the trees on my property trimmed at my house in another town every other year (39 trees). It seems like people in Ocean Grove never even thought of trimming a tree, And nobody has more than 2 or 3 trees max, so it would be easy and cheap to do. Is this simple ignorance or do people like ugly trees?
Since most of these trees are on OGCMA-owned tree lawns, is this something that CMA should do — have a crew go around the town and properly trim the trees? (The crew would need to be knowledgeable in tree trimming or you would get more of the same.)
Trimming the trees would be simple and yet it would make things look much better.
Trees should be pruned. I have had to break away branches on my run, for fear of getting poked in the eye or having to run around a tree, for fear of a dead branch falling on me. Trees have the potential to kill!! I know because I narrowly escaped death, when a huge dead branch fell on my car in another town, upon seconds from entering it. Why wait for a tragedy?
I also believe residents and homeowners should replace dead trees. After all, aren’t we the Grove?
Homeowners and business owners also have a responsibility to prune their flowers and shrubs so you can get where you want to be by way of the sidewalks and not the streets. Aren’t sidewalks meant to walk down?
Finally, Blogfinger is not getting negative. I believe most Ocean Grover’s take pride in their community and want to bring the Grove back to what it once was and if that means pruning, weeding and even painting then I say “BRAVO!” These are positive steps forward.
I agree that the trees should be pruned. I had to stop several times on my run to break branches away for fear of loosing an eye or purposely running around a tree for fear of a branch falling on my head. It is a problem and branches do fall and can kill!!! I know because I was seconds away from entering my car, in another town, when a huge branch fell on it. I am just lucky I ‘m here today. Why wait until it’s too late?
Residence and store owners should be made to replace dead trees. Since HPC is very strict on preserving the history of the town, they should enforce just as much attention to this detail. After all, we are the Grove.
Home and business owners, have a responsibility to their neighbors, and visitors to prune their flowers and shrubs so one can walk comfortably down the sidewalks and not in the streets. After all, isn’t that why we have them? It’s like walking through a maze at times to get where you want to be.
Blogfinger is not getting negative. I believe most people of OG want to see the town continue to flourish and become what it can and once was and if that means taking pride in your home by pruning, weeding painting and whatever else, then I say you can’t get any more positive than that!
Wow. The stress is overwhelming me. Is my paint peeling? My trees sloppy? Weeds a problem? This Blog may be getting a little negative.
It costs $150 to 350 to have a tree comprehensively trimmed. The fact that so few trim their trees, to include those in parks and on OGCMA property, is a sign that owners just don’t care if they are creating an eyesore for their neighbors. If done well, a tree only needs to be trimmed ever 3-4 years.
He does as do many Neptune Twp officials and other CMA officials.
Trees on the OG streets have been “trimmed” by telephone/cable workers, who chopped with little attention to aesthetics.
As for homeowners not trimming their trees, I can’t speak for other streets in OG, but a good number of Cookman Avenue trees are trimmed–carefully–by caring homeowners.
Personally, I’m more concerned about trees that are chopped down or removed when they’re perfectly healthy.
Bythesea and Worrier raise some very interesting questions relating to our landlord’s (OGCMA) and our tax- receiving Neptune Twp. municipality’s responsibilities re: trees. Where? Whose? New ones? Etc?
Do you think OGHOA president reads this blog?
Several years ago, a huge tree in Firemen’s Park dropped a major branch onto the ground at one of the walking paths at the southeastern corner. It was right near the Gazebo where children gather to catch the school bus. The branch was big enough that it could have killed somebody. It happened because that tree had not been pruned properly on a regular basis;
I don’t know if the township actually regularly inspects the trees that are its responsibility. Some parks are owned by the CMA—do they do preventive maintenance on their trees? If a tree in on a resident’s property then he is responsible.
