Tuesday Forecast:
A Nor’easter will impact the area Wednesday night after midnight through most of the daylight hours on Thursday.
A strong coastal storm will be moving up along the eastern seaboard bringing a lot of precipitation, strong northeast winds and some minor coastal flooding. The uncertainty in the forecast is with precipitation type and where it changes to rain.
All areas will start as snow after midnight Wednesday night, and there will be a few inches of snow on the ground by Thursday morning.
During the day on Thursday, as the storm moves closer, warmer air will be working into the system aloft so a change to sleet and rain will occur along the southern NJ coast. This changeover line will progress northward Thursday morning.
Snow accumulations in Middlesex and Mercer, will be in the 8-12 inch range. For central NJ, including Monmouth and northern Ocean, expect 4 to 8 inches before the change over to rain, with perhaps an additional inch or two Thursday afternoon with the change back to snow. The heaviest precipitation will occur between 6am and noon on Thursday.
Northeast winds will gust to gale force on Thursday. Minor coastal flooding will likely occur. Expect street flooding in the usual areas.
