On Sunday we will have nine short films screened at the 2nd Annual Blogfinger Film Festival. And, given the anticipation of this event, how could we not recall the making of a famous movie in the Grove over thirty years ago? It was then that Woody Allen included Ocean Grove in his film “Stardust Memories.” He said that “Stardust” is one of his favorites among his many triumphs.
In 2011, we reported on that story, and it seems fitting to post it again now, including another song from the soundtrack.
Stardust Memories remembered on Blogfinger
From Woody Allen—Music From His Movies, Vol 2, here is the Glenn Miller Orchestra (from Stardust Memories) with “Moonlight Serenade.”
“Earthly Possessions” starring Susan Surandon and “City By The Sea” starring Robert DeNiro were both shot in Ocean Grove.
Rich: You are correct, but Greta said, in that movie, that Ocean Grove is where you go to die. It also was an awful film. They made Asbury Park look like a life threatening ghetto. At the Blogfinger Film Festival, we were talking about films made by NYU grads. The thing about Greta was that they actually identified the town as Ocean Grove. The others did not.
As much as the number of films that have been made in and around Ocean Grove “According to Greta” shows the most familiar locations around the Grove and Asbury that ” a walking tour” could be had. Of course the scene with the Greta character (Hilary Duff) on the pier is gone forever, except in the film, as Sandy has claimed that location. No matter what always great to see the Grove on film.
