No green flags at the beach. Yellow means jump right in, but always be careful. One red means danger warning. Two reds mean no one goes in. Black means surfer beach. Pink means somebody left an undergarment on the beach. PG photo

They think the green flag makes people too complacent regarding water safety. Many people, seeing yellow, will inquire about it, and then the lifeguards can say something about being careful. They want everyone to be vigilant, even under the best water conditions.
I do think it’s a bit confusing. In my youth, (ages ago, I know) the green, yellow and red flags denoted water quality. Seeing yellow flags was always a bit disconcerting.
Paul, there hasn’t been a green flag flown at the OG beaches in a couple of years. For some reason the OGCMA no longer flies a green flag, no matter how calm the water is. Makes no sense to me. Anybody know why?
