1. Mayor Randy Bishop says the developers of the Ocean Grove North End are very close to getting the state DEP permits they need in order to proceed with the work. This doesn’t mean the work will begin soon, but it does mean the developers and the Township Committee can soon begin negotiations on the project’s details. The North End Redevelopment will be a king-sized (by Ocean Grove standards) condo/hotel facility at the eastern end of Wesley Lake. 2. A Freehold grand jury has indicted Kharaan Ferreira, 33, formerly of Ocean Grove, as part of an alleged team of burglars. According to Neptune police, Ferreira was charged in January with the burglary of two adjacent summer homes in the 100 block of Pilgrim Pathway in Ocean Grove. And now, as reported on Monday by Manasquan-BelmarPatch.com, Ferreira has also been indicted for burglarizing homes in Bradley Beach. He also faces theft and other charges in Manasquan. He is being held in Monmouth County Jail.
3. New Jersey American Water is about to change the chemicals in our water. Beginning May 28, the company says you should notice less of a chlorinated taste and smell, because instead of using free chlorine as a treatment disinfectant they’ll be using chloramine, a mixture of chlorine and ammonia. This change affects Ocean Grove and surrounding communities in Monmouth and Ocean Counties. The change is not without negative side effects. The company says kidney dialysis patients should consult their physicians about whether and how to filter the water. Also, fish owners beware; chloramine may be toxic to fish. Jan Glad to see some have opened there eyes about the N.End. It’s not too late to challenge the DEP permits. Neptune wants to give Green Acres property away along with part of the lake, are they kidding? How does Neptune think they can give away public property to private concerns for a profit just to make revenue?
Well if Neptune can give away property then we are all entitled to have some.
Imagine structures 4 to 5 times larger than the only 22 condo’s that Green has built on the Pathway. If you include the Hotel ADD another massive building to accommodate 90 rooms. THIS WILL DESTROY THE INTEGRITY OF THE GROVE. SHAME ON NEPTUNE AND BACK DOOR POLITICS TO ALLOW SUCH A MESS.
The residents of Ocean Grove should have insisted on ONLY single family homes to conform to it’s historic nature.
I hope that the North End Redevelopment incorporates the Ocean Grove Avenue and Street grid layout into its final plans. This would prevent it being an unwelcoming “world apart”.
