This extraordinary photo is by Tracey James, staff photographer @Blogfinger. In an email to BF she says, “I’m sure you saw the mass of Monarch butterflies that were making their migration through our area today. Many of them stopped in my yard to enjoy a snack in my hanging baskets. I was fortunate enough to have my 105mm lens attached to my camera and I got a few wonderful shots. Hope you enjoy !!”
Soundtrack: Grady Tate with “Poor Butterfly.”
Yes, great picture, but not a Monarch Butterfly. It looks like a Painted Lady. I’ve seen a large number of both the Painted Lady and the Red Admiral in the past few days. My brother was cutting grass yesterday, out in the Western part of Neptune and saw a large number of butterflies flying North.
WOW! What a gorgeous shot!
Whenever I see a monarch butterfly, I think of my father. May 3rd was the 9th anniversary of his passing. What a thrill it was for me to drive through the migration on route 33 yesterday. It was like a visit from dear old dad.
Great picture but that’s not a Monarch.
