Tammy Wynette wrote this song in 1968 with Billy Sherill. It’s said that they composed it in 15 minutes. It is considered by some to be the greatest country song ever. The song has been criticized by feminists and it has been satirized by Sesame Street and in the film The Blues Brothers, but it also has been featured in many films including Five Easy Pieces, The Crying Game and Sleepless in Seattle.
