Starlight Express
Starlight Express was an amazing Broadway show in the 1980′s written by Andrew Lloyd Webber. It is a rock musical about a toy train which comes to life. The show is performed on roller skates.
Although it has been one of the most successful shows on London’s West End (over 7,000 performances), it only lasted about 700 performances in the U.S. Here is the title song “Starlight Express.” —PG
This was one of my favorite shows. We were still living in England in the 80′s and we have lost count of the number times we went to this show. We still listen to the CDs. Never understood why it never came back, but I guess the stage configuration was difficult and expensive for theatres to build. And they never made a movie of it – what a great movie that would be!
Some of the idioms just stayed with us – whenever one of us says something like “this thing is a bit rusty”, the other one always comes back with “Rusty was a steamer” so automatically, it is scary!! Thank you for posting this on the blog. Nostalgia is wonderful thing.
