MUSIC. John Pizzarelli and Jane Monheit

October 2, 2012 by Blogfinger

As the great jazz stars of the past die off, some people have predicted that jazz itself would vanish. But that music, invented and made in the USA, is alive and well, and will be preserved by many young stars such as John Pizzarelli and Jane Monheit.  Listen for John’s solo when he does “that thing”—it’s when he sings the exact notes that he plays on his guitar.  It is very special.

The song  “They Can’t Take That  Away From Me” was written for the 1937 movie “Shall We Dance.”   It was composed by George and Ira Gershwin and was first performed in that film by Fred Astaire who sang it to Ginger Rogers.

One heck of a guitar solo. Nice.
