Ann Horan took over as president of the Ocean Grove Home Owners Association on Saturday, along with a complete new set of officers.

The new officers include Barbara Burns, vice president; George Germann, treasurer, and Mary Newmark, secretary.

Horan is retired from Schering-Plough (Merck), where she was director of natural product research and high throughput screening. She has authored many peer-reviewed scientific articles and holds several patents relating to antibiotics. She is a former president of the Society for Industrial Microbiology.

Barbara Burns is a practicing attorney specializing in corporate law, labor and employment, and intellectual property law. Prior to opening her practice in Ocean Grove, she was senior vice president and general counsel for Greater Media, Inc. She is president of the Seaside Manor Condominium Association.

George Germann, retired, has served as chief information officer at JP Morgan Chase, Ernst & Young, the Visiting Nurse Service of New York and the Izod Apparel Division of General Mills. He was also a professor of business and computer science and director of the Center for Computer and Information Sciences at Seton Hall University.

Mary Newmark has worked in the real estate division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and has been a board member and officer of numerous organizations, including president of the Hoover PTA, treasurer of the Westfield Washington School PTA and president of the Westfield Service League.

All four of the new officers were elected after running unopposed. In addition, Fran Paladino, a former Home Owners president, was elected as a regular member of the board of trustees. Denis McCarthy, president for the past two years, also becomes a member of the board.

My question is: What are the OGHMAs key goals for OG over the next 12-18 months and then for over 5 years? What are the key things that this town must do to continue to advance its restoration into a premier Victorian beach town? We are 2/3 of the way there — how do we continue the progression?

Jason, why not attend an OGHOA meeting and ask those questions?
