Johnny Mathis, who was to appear in the Great Auditorium on August 11, has been “postponed.” Here is the official press release provided by the OGCMA:
“Johnny Mathis will be undergoing a 2nd right hip replacement on July 31, 2012. He will be canceling all of his upcoming dates from that time through his recovery period which is expected to run until the middle of October. At his most recent office visit and examination, Mr. Mathis’ orthopedic surgeon determined that the singer’s first artificial hip has deteriorated to the condition where replacement has now become necessary.
Mr. Mathis greatly regrets the inconvenience that this has caused to his fans as well as the venues and promoters. He is very much looking forward to the end of October when he will be resuming his normal schedule of concerts and returning to his favorite thing which is singing.”
For more information from the CMA regarding this situation, keep an eye on their website: OGCMA website link
Mr. Mathis will be missed in the Grove this summer. His last show here was wonderful, wonderful. Here is a song that is not one of his mega-hits, but chances are that you will like “What I Did For Love” from “A Chorus Line.” —–PG

My very best wishes to Johnny for a sucessful surgery and speedy recovery with the hope that he will be performing for many more years. I hope our tickets will be honored for his show next summer.
The Great Auditorium needs to find a hip replacement for Johnny Mathis. That dude is square.
Please see that the folks who book the shows in the GA get a hip replacement for Johnny Mathis….(sorry, couldn’t resist)
How do we find out about refunds?
That information will be available on Blogfinger (and elsewhere) as soon as the CMA figures out how to deal with the situation.
Yes….PLEASE get a HIP replacement for Mr. Mathis. We need more entertainers playing there that attract a younger audience. So many of the shows are for the Senior Citizen crowd.
How disappointing to read some of the previous comments, clearly some people don’t know a class act when it smacks them in the face. Johnny Mathis is a legend….
